Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o on Tuesday afternoon officially handed over the site for the construction of a new street lighting project along the road connecting South Eastern Kenya University (SEKU) to Kwa Vonza Town.
The project will see the installation of street lights over a one-kilometre stretch, with 37 concrete poles to be erected at intervals of 30 metres. Once completed, the lighting system is expected to significantly improve visibility and safety for pedestrians and motorists using the busy road.
Speaking during the site handover, Hon. Nding’o said the project is aimed at enhancing security, particularly for the thousands of SEKU students who walk between the university and Kwa Vonza Town on a daily basis. He noted that improved lighting will help reduce security risks while creating a safer environment during the evening and early morning hours.
Residents and students welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely investment that will improve movement, boost business activities in the area, and contribute to the continued development of Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward. The project forms part of the MCA’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and the welfare of residents.
