Setting the record straight on Ilimikuyu Earth Dam in Endau/ Malalani
There has been a foolish propaganda from some ignorant and ill intentioned people that the County Government has spent Ksh150Million for the construction of Ilimikuyu Earth Dam in Endau/Malalani ward.
The area MCA Erastus Mbuno, who should know better, has also made unsavoury remarks against the County Executive on the same. This shows how Ignorant the MCA is.
The facts on the projects are as below
This was a European Union (EU) funded project implemented through the Water Sector Trust Fund(WSTF).
The facility is an earth dam and water distribution network built under the Ending Drought Emergencies: Climate Proofed Infrastructure Programme (EDE-CPIRA), aimed at providing reliable, climate-resilient water access.
WSTF was responsible for the design, procurement and management of the dam construction project.
Phase 1 of the project costing about 50Million began and stalled in 2020.
In 2023, EU mobilised more funds & WSTF began a phase 2 at a cost of 86Million in 2024, but again stalled in 2025 due to misalignment between the design components & the actual ground requirements for the project.
The wayward argument that Kitui County Government has allocated & spent Ksh150million on this project is an absolute lie & reckless misinformation.
The County Government did not participate in the design and/or implementation of the project.
If anyone should be held accountable for the stalling of this project, then it should be the National Government through the Water Sector Trust Fund, which is a state corporation under the Ministry of Water and the donor; the European Union.
Governor Dr. Julius Malombe remains steadfastly committed to value for money and safeguarding public resources for maximum benefits to the County residents.
On the face of facts and truth, lies & propaganda melt away like wax on flame!
