Residents of Kiumoni and motorists using the Kitui–Machakos road have received a major boost after Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o officially handed over the site for the construction of a concrete slab at Kwa Ngaya Stream.
The project is expected to permanently address the long-standing challenges faced by road users at the stream crossing, which has for years been a major obstacle, especially during the rainy season. The section has frequently become impassable, disrupting transport and economic activities between Kitui County and neighbouring Machakos County through Kavingu.
Speaking during the site handover, Hon. Nding’o said the project fulfills his commitment to improving road infrastructure and enhancing connectivity within Yatta Kwa Vonza Ward. He noted that the slab will ensure safe and reliable passage for motorists, boda boda riders, traders and residents throughout the year.
The announcement was welcomed with excitement by local residents, who described the project as long overdue. They expressed optimism that the improved crossing will ease movement, boost trade, improve access to essential services and strengthen the transport link between Kitui and Machakos counties.
