On Wednesday, September 2, 2026 – Changes have been made to the leadership of the Majority Party in the Kitui County Assembly following the resignation of Hon. Harrison Maluki as Majority Leader.
The changes were announced by the Speaker during Wednesday afternoon’s plenary sitting after the Assembly received a letter dated September 2, 2026, from the Majority Party Whip confirming the election of new leaders.
Hon. Boniface Mukwate Katula, who previously served as the Majority Party Whip and represents Kanyangi Ward, has been elected the new Leader of the Majority Party, taking over from Maluki.
Maluki’s departure from the Majority Leader’s position follows his appointment as the new Clerk of the Kitui County Assembly, creating a vacancy that has now been filled.
Following Katula’s elevation, Hon. Godfrey Muthengi Ndagara, who served as Deputy Majority Party Whip, has been elected the new Majority Party Whip.
The Assembly has also elected Hon. Fastina Mwende Solomon as the new Deputy Majority Party Whip.
In his communication to the House, the Speaker congratulated the new Majority Party leadership and urged them to execute their responsibilities with integrity, commitment and diligence.
The Speaker further called on the new leadership to uphold the dignity and integrity of the Assembly, promote unity among Members and adhere to the rules, traditions and procedures governing the House.
The new Majority Party leadership is expected to play a key role in coordinating the Majority side, providing direction on House business and working with Members to advance legislation and matters affecting the people of Kitui County.
The changes mark a new chapter in the leadership of the Majority Party as Katula takes charge of the team at a time when the Assembly continues to undertake its legislative, oversight and representation mandates.
