Kitui South MP Dr. Racheal Nyamai on Saturday commissioned the Tangai Earth Dam in Kiuani, Athi Ward, as she stepped up efforts to address water scarcity and strengthen community resilience in the constituency. The project is expected to provide a reliable source of water for domestic use, livestock and irrigation farming, benefiting hundreds of households in the area.
Speaking during the commissioning, Nyamai said the dam represents more than an infrastructure project, describing it as an important investment in the livelihoods and future of the people of Kitui South. She noted that improved access to water would help residents cope with prolonged dry spells while creating opportunities for small-scale irrigation and agricultural production.
The MP thereafter joined residents of Athi Ward for a public engagement forum, where she listened to community concerns and discussed ongoing and planned development initiatives. She reaffirmed her commitment to people-centred development, saying practical projects that directly respond to the needs of residents would remain at the heart of her leadership agenda.
Nyamai highlighted the construction of earth dams, improvement of access roads and investment in education as some of the interventions being undertaken across Kitui South. She said such projects are aimed at opening up rural areas, improving access to essential services and creating an enabling environment for communities to pursue economic opportunities.
Later, the legislator continued her development tour with the commissioning of newly constructed classrooms and renovated learning facilities in Athi Ward. The schools included Ivukuvuku Primary School, Ndivuni Primary School and Mbooni Primary School, where improved infrastructure is expected to provide pupils with safer and more conducive environments for learning.
The new and refurbished classrooms are expected to enhance the quality of the learning environment, support pupil retention and contribute to better academic outcomes. Nyamai emphasized that investing in education is an investment in the future of Kitui South, as children require dignified facilities and a supportive environment to realize their full potential.
Nyamai reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with President William Ruto to attract and deliver more development projects for the people of Kitui South. She said she would continue championing initiatives focused on water, education, roads and livelihoods, maintaining that development must translate into tangible improvements in the daily lives of residents.
