Nguna Steps Up Mbondoni–Kiomo–Nzilani Road Works Ahead of El Niño Rains

Date:

Mwingi West MP Hon. Charles Nguna has intensified the ongoing opening and grading of the Mbondoni–Kiomo–Nzilani Road as part of efforts to improve connectivity and prepare local communities for the anticipated El Niño rains. The road works, being undertaken under Nguna’s patronage through the 26 Critical and Essential Roads Programme, are expected to make movement easier for residents while improving access to markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services. For residents along the route, the intervention comes at a critical time. Poor road conditions often make it difficult for families to transport farm produce, access healthcare and move goods and people, particularly when heavy rains set in.The ongoing works include bush clearing, general grading, culvert installation, spot murraming and construction of gabions at sections requiring drainage and erosion control.Nguna says the focus is not simply on grading the road, but on opening up previously difficult sections and strengthening the route ahead of the rainy season. The Mwingi West legislator has continued to position road connectivity as a key part of his development agenda, arguing that reliable roads are essential for unlocking the economic potential of rural communities. With machinery currently on the ground, residents along the Mbondoni–Kiomo–Nzilani route are now looking forward to a more accessible road network and improved movement once the works are completed.“Hapa kazi tu! We are opening up Mwingi West through development,” Nguna said through his press service.
