Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Hon. Mark Nding’o has joined the Kitui County Executive and County Assembly leadership in issuing a joint communiqué following a successful working retreat held in Mombasa to review the county’s development journey and chart the way forward.
The retreat brought together members of the County Executive and County Assembly under the theme “Kitui County Transformative Journey 2022–2027.” Leaders reviewed the achievements recorded over the past four years under the leadership of Governor Dr Julius Makau Malombe and discussed strategic priorities for the remaining period of the current administration.
Governor Malombe outlined key achievements of his government, with emphasis on improvements in healthcare, infrastructure, water projects and education. The Governor also highlighted the progress made in strengthening Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE), including the confirmation of a significant number of ECDE teachers to permanent and pensionable terms.
A major priority identified for the next ten months is the construction of 240 new ECDE classrooms across the county, a move expected to improve the learning environment for thousands of young learners. The county government also plans to accelerate the solarisation of water projects to reduce reliance on conventional power sources and improve the reliability of water supply.
Infrastructure development will also remain a major focus, with plans to advance road construction and urban improvement projects in areas including Kiusyani and Tseikuru, with Tseikuru targeted for development as a dustless town
According to the county leadership, 4,057 projects have been implemented over the last four years through various county departments and ministries. The leaders said the projects demonstrate the administration’s commitment to translating its development agenda into tangible services and infrastructure for residents across the 40 wards.
The county government has also placed emphasis on empowering local contractors, with more than 4,000 local contractors trained to enhance their technical capacity and increase their participation in county-funded development projects. The retreat concluded with leaders reaffirming their commitment to working together and maintaining focus on service delivery and development during the remaining ten months of the administration.
