Speaker Kinengo calls for Sustained Development as 2027 Politics Near

Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya has urged leaders in the county to keep the interests of residents at the heart of their leadership, warning that political activities should not derail development and service delivery.

Speaking on Tuesday in Mombasa during a joint consultative retreat bringing together the County Assembly and the County Executive, Kinengo said the two arms of government have a shared responsibility to ensure that Kitui residents continue to benefit from quality services and meaningful development.

The Speaker called for renewed focus on the completion of ongoing projects, revival of stalled programmes and improvement of public services across the county. He said leaders should remain focused on delivering their mandate even as the country gradually enters the 2027 political season.

Kinengo also stressed the need for constructive engagement between the Assembly and the Executive. While acknowledging that the two arms have separate constitutional mandates, he said cooperation, consultation and mutual respect remain critical in addressing the needs of Kitui residents.

Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe said his administration had implemented a number of projects with an impact on residents across various sectors. He called for continued collaboration between the Assembly and Executive while respecting the principle of separation of powers.

The retreat, held under the theme “Kitui County’s Transformative Journey 2022–2027: Achievements and Strategic Focus Areas for the Final Year,” provides an opportunity for the two arms to assess the county’s progress since 2022 and identify areas requiring greater attention during the final year of the current administration.

The meeting brings together Members of the County Assembly, County Executive Committee Members and senior county officials. It is also expected to strengthen accountability, coordination and communication on development as Kitui enters the final stretch of the current term.
