Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe on Tuesday hosted members of the Technical and Vocational Education and Training Authority (TVETA) Board led by Director General Mr. Timothy Nyongesa for a courtesy call at his office. The meeting focused on the state of vocational training institutions in the county and the progress made in enhancing skills development among young people.
The TVETA delegation was in Kitui to present the findings of a quality audit report conducted across 32 public Vocational Training Centres (VTCs) in the county. The assessment evaluated compliance with national training standards as part of a broader quality assurance exercise aimed at improving the delivery of technical and vocational education.
According to the report, the institutions recorded positive progress in governance and institutional management. TVETA noted that all the audited vocational training centres maintained valid accreditation status, an indication of their commitment to meeting the required national standards for training and service delivery.
The authority further commended the County Government of Kitui for its continued investment in vocational education. Among the key interventions highlighted were the provision of modern training equipment to institutions and the payment of assessment fees for eligible trainees, measures that have enhanced access to quality technical education.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening education and skills development across the county. He emphasized that quality vocational training plays a critical role in equipping young people with practical skills needed for employment and entrepreneurship.
The governor noted that investing in technical education remains a key pillar of his development agenda, adding that a skilled workforce is essential for driving Kitui’s socio-economic transformation. He pledged continued support for vocational training institutions to ensure they remain centres of excellence in nurturing talent and innovation.
