Kitui County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Culture, Gender, Youth, ICT, Sports and Social Services, Phoebe Mutemi, has challenged learners to embrace teamwork and discipline as key pillars for success in sports and life.
Speaking during the opening parade of the Eastern Region Primary and Junior Secondary Schools Games at Kitui High School on Monday, Mutemi said sports play a vital role in nurturing leadership, responsibility, and unity among young people.
“Practice teamwork to achieve more. Practice self-discipline because it is what will birth leadership and responsibility in you,” she told the participating learners.
The regional competition has brought together young athletes from counties across the Eastern region to compete, showcase their talents, and promote sportsmanship.
Mutemi expressed the county’s pride in hosting the event, noting that it would not only identify and nurture sporting talent but also stimulate the local economy.
“We are happy to host the Eastern Regionals here in Kitui. Beyond sports, this will boost local business, fill our hotels, and put Kitui on the map,” she said.
The CECM reaffirmed the County Government’s commitment to supporting school sports, talent development, and investment in sports facilities to nurture the next generation of champions and leaders.
