Kitui County Government has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the national government agencies to expand access to clean and reliable water across the county.
Speaking during a meeting hosted by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe, Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) CEO Mr. Sammy Napolo said the partnership between the county and national governments is aimed at facilitating water supply projects for the people of Kitui.
Napolo revealed that the national government is implementing about 40 water-related projects across Kitui County, with the Masinga–Kitui Water Project being among the flagship initiatives.
He noted that the Masinga–Kitui project is expected to play a major role in addressing the county’s longstanding water challenges by expanding water supply infrastructure and improving access to clean water for residents.
The CEO further highlighted the contribution of the Kitui County Government, which has committed more than KSh200 million towards facilitating the extension of the Kitui–Masinga water pipeline.
According to Napolo, the agency is also undertaking a number of additional water projects across the county, with more than 11 projects lined up to improve water access in different communities.
He said the ultimate goal of the partnership and ongoing investments is to ensure that more residents of Kitui have access to safe, clean and reliable water for domestic use and other economic activities.
The projects are expected to strengthen water infrastructure across the county while supporting households, institutions, farmers and businesses that continue to face water shortages.
The collaboration between the two levels of government comes as Kitui continues to prioritize water development as a key pillar of improving livelihoods and accelerating socio-economic development.
