Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe has commissioned a 30-metre-long drift across Kalundu River along the Kituluku–AIC Ngiini Road in Kyangwithya East Ward, in a move aimed at improving road connectivity and easing movement for residents.
The newly completed infrastructure is expected to provide more reliable, all-weather access for communities living along the route, particularly during periods when the river becomes difficult to cross.
The project will also facilitate the movement of people, farm produce and other goods, while supporting local businesses and economic activities that depend on efficient transport networks.
Governor Malombe said improved road infrastructure remains an important part of the county government’s development agenda, as better connectivity enables residents to access markets, schools, health facilities and other essential services.
The commissioning of the Kalundu River drift adds to ongoing efforts by the County Government of Kitui to improve road infrastructure and enhance accessibility across the county.
The project was commissioned on Friday, August 14, 2026.
