Ndindi Nyoro Ditches UDA as Political Future Takes Shape Ahead of 2027 Election

Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has formally broken ranks with the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA), marking a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Nyoro, once regarded as one of President William Ruto’s key allies and among the prominent voices behind the Kenya Kwanza campaign in 2022, confirmed in July that he had left UDA.

The lawmaker attributed his decision to what he described as the party’s failure to remain focused on the interests and promises made to Kenyans. He has also criticised the government over economic challenges and other issues affecting ordinary citizens.

“I will not be pushed around,” Nyoro said, maintaining that his next political decision would be guided by the interests of Kenyans rather than pressure from political camps or individual leaders.

Nyoro keeps his next move under wraps

Despite confirming his departure from UDA, Nyoro has stopped short of publicly naming the opposition party or political coalition he intends to join.

The Kiharu MP has said he is consulting widely with different stakeholders and like-minded leaders before announcing his next political direction.

He has previously asked Kenyans to give him several weeks to articulate his political position, insisting that his decision is not about personal political convenience but about the kind of Kenya he believes the country should become.

Nyoro has also made it clear that he no longer considers himself part of the government, saying Kenya’s political landscape has increasingly become divided between the government and opposition.

A major political signal ahead of 2027

Nyoro’s exit comes at a time when the ruling UDA party is facing growing political realignments, particularly in the Mt Kenya region.

His departure is likely to attract attention because of his previous role in mobilising support for President Ruto during the 2022 election campaign. His decision could also influence ongoing discussions about the political direction of Mt Kenya and the wider opposition ahead of 2027.

For now, however, Nyoro is keeping his cards close to his chest.

Rather than immediately joining a named opposition outfit, he has indicated that he wants to work with leaders who share his vision for the country’s future.

His next announcement could therefore become an important moment in the unfolding 2027 political contest, especially as politicians across the country continue positioning themselves for new alliances and political formations.

Note: While Nyoro has confirmed his exit from UDA and said he is no longer part of the government, he had not, in the latest reports, formally announced a specific opposition party or presidential candidate he would support.
