Kitui West political heavyweight Eng. Eric Mbai has thrown his weight behind Kitui Women Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu’s 2027 gubernatorial bid, strengthening her growing support among leaders associated with Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
On Friday, Dr. Kasalu intensified her meet-the-people tour of Kitui West Constituency, holding a series of joint rallies alongside Eng. Mbai in his political backyard. The rallies provided a platform for the two leaders to engage residents and discuss the region’s leadership and development priorities ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During the engagements, Eng. Mbai publicly backed Dr. Kasalu’s ambition to become the next Governor of Kitui County, adding momentum to her campaign as the contest for the county’s top seat gathers pace. His endorsement is politically significant as Wiper Party prepares for its nomination process, which is expected to shape the competition among aspirants seeking the party’s gubernatorial ticket.
Mbai has also been associated with development initiatives at Mama Pauline Kalonzo Girls Secondary School and Kalonzo Musyoka Senior Secondary School, including a reported KSh50 million solarisation project. The schools recently featured in separate bus-launching events attended by senior leaders, including Kalonzo Musyoka, highlighting the continued political and development engagements surrounding the institutions.
Kasalu’s latest endorsement adds to the growing attention around her 2027 gubernatorial ambitions, particularly as she continues reaching out to voters across Kitui County. With influential leaders increasingly declaring their positions ahead of the Wiper primaries, the emerging alliances could play a significant role in determining who ultimately secures the party’s ticket for the governor’s race.
