The Kitui Town Municipal Slaughterhouse has received a significant & considerable boost following the drilling of a borehole within the facility by the Ministry of Urban Development through the Kitui Municipality department. The new water source is expected to greatly enhance sanitation standards and improve operations at the busy meat processing facility.
The slaughterhouse, which serves Kitui Municipality and neighboring areas, has undergone a series of upgrades under the leadership of Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Makau Malombe.
The CEC for urban development Generali Fredrick Kimanga together with his staff has coordinated serious upgrades in major towns from installation of street lighting, installation of drainage, cabros pavement structure among others
The county administration has prioritized the modernization of the facility to ensure it meets required public health and hygiene standards while supporting the livestock and meat value chain.
Speaking on the development, then Municipality Manager Madam Irene, noted that the borehole project will provide a reliable supply of clean water for cleaning and sanitation purposes. The improved water access is expected to create a cleaner and safer environment for workers, traders, and consumers who depend on the facility, which serves thousands of residents across the region.

In addition to improving sanitation, the borehole is expected to lower operational costs associated with sourcing water from external suppliers. The reliable water supply will ensure uninterrupted cleaning of slaughter areas, equipment, and holding facilities, contributing to better compliance with public health regulations.
Local livestock traders and butchers welcomed the development, saying the availability of clean water will improve efficiency and enhance the quality of services offered at the slaughterhouse. They noted that the facility plays a critical role in supporting the local livestock economy and providing safe meat products to consumers.
The borehole project forms part of the County Government’s broader agenda to upgrade public infrastructure and improve service delivery across Kitui Municipality. County officials reaffirmed their commitment to investing in modern facilities that promote public health, economic growth, and sustainable urban development.
