Presidential candidate and Wiper Party leader Rt hon Kalonzo Musyoka has raised fresh concerns over the ongoing process of reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), claiming the current nominees reflect partisan interests.
Taking to his social media platforms, Kalonzo emphasized the central role of independence in the IEBC’s mandate.
“The most important word in Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is ‘Independent’,” he stated.
He criticized the current list of nominees, alleging undue influence from President William Ruto’s administration.
“We insist on not only inclusivity but consultation and concurrence, and that the IEBC must be independent. What we have right now in the nominees is a William Ruto IEBC,” Kalonzo wrote.
The former Vice President warned that failure to build consensus around the commission’s composition could jeopardize public trust in future electoral processes. He urged all stakeholders to uphold the principles of impartiality and broad-based consultation in the selection of commissioners.
The IEBC reconstitution has remained a divisive issue, with opposition leaders warning against unilateral appointments they say could compromise the credibility of the 2027 General Election.
