Yatta Kwa Vonza MCA Mark Nding’o has officially handed over the site for the construction of a sand dam at Ndulia along the Mamole River in Makusya, in a move aimed at improving access to water for local residents.
Speaking during the site handover exercise, Hon. Nding’o said the project will play a key role in addressing water scarcity in the area by providing a reliable and sustainable water source for households, livestock and small-scale farming activities.
The MCA noted that sand dams are essential in conserving water and recharging underground water sources, especially in arid and semi-arid regions such as Yatta Kwa Vonza.
He further thanked the County Government of Kitui for funding the project, saying the initiative reflects the county’s commitment to improving the livelihoods of residents through water development programs.
Residents welcomed the project, expressing optimism that the sand dam will help ease water challenges that have affected the community for years.
