CPA John Makau, Dr. Kimwele Join Gov Malombe in Launch of Landmark Waita Ward Projects

Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe on Friday commissioned the 45-metre Mutwangombe Drift, the 30-metre extension of Kathoka Vented Drift, as well as river training and gabion protection works along Kathoka Stream and at Mutwangombe Secondary School in Waita Ward, Mwingi Central Sub-County.

The projects are part of the county government’s ongoing efforts to improve road connectivity, enhance public safety, and strengthen access to essential services for residents living in the area. The infrastructure is expected to ease movement of people, goods, and services throughout the year, especially during the rainy season.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering transformative development projects aimed at improving the livelihoods of Kitui residents. He noted that strategic investments in infrastructure remain a key pillar of his government’s development agenda.

The Governor said the completion of the drifts and river protection works will significantly reduce disruptions caused by flooding, which has for years affected transportation and access to schools, health facilities, and markets in the region.

Residents welcomed the projects, describing them as timely interventions that will enhance safety and boost economic activities within Waita Ward and neighboring areas. The new infrastructure is expected to open up the region for greater investment and development opportunities.

Deputy Governor was among county leaders who accompanied Dr. Malombe during the event, underscoring the county leadership’s collective commitment to accelerating development projects across all wards.

Also present was Chief Officer for Finance CPA John Makau, who is eyeing the Mwingi Central parliamentary seat. Makau lauded the county government’s continued investment in infrastructure, saying such projects directly improve the welfare of wananchi and support local economic growth.

County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture Dr. Kimwele Mbaya, who is a senatorial aspirant, attended the function and emphasized the importance of reliable infrastructure in supporting agricultural productivity and market access for farmers across the county.

County Executive Committee Member for Roads Eng. Itiko highlighted the technical significance of the completed works, noting that the drifts, river training, and gabion protection structures were designed to withstand harsh weather conditions and ensure long-term service to residents.

The event was also attended by Waita Ward MCA Hon. Joseph Kasungi, who thanked the county government for prioritizing development projects in the area. He urged residents to support and safeguard the infrastructure as the county continues implementing projects aimed at transforming livelihoods and fostering sustainable development.
