Residents of Nzangathi Village in Kitui East witnessed a remarkable cultural celebration over the weekend as the village transformed into a center of joy and excitement during Sammy Mutea’s second traditional visit to his in-laws. The event attracted thousands of residents, relatives, friends, and admirers who gathered to witness what many described as a unique and memorable occasion.
The celebrations brought normal activities in the village to a standstill as a spectacular convoy of more than 70 vehicles made its way into Nzangathi. The long line of vehicles attracted attention from villagers and visitors alike, with many lining the roads to catch a glimpse of the colorful procession.
Songs, traditional dances, and celebrations filled the air as the atmosphere turned electric with excitement. Community members joined in the festivities, creating a scene that reflected the strong cultural values and unity that traditional marriage ceremonies continue to uphold.
The ceremony was attended by various leaders, among them Kitui Woman Representative Dr. Irene Kasalu, who used the occasion to address important social issues affecting families and schools. She urged parents to remain actively involved in raising and guiding their children.
Dr. Kasalu expressed concern over the recent increase in incidents of school dormitory fires reported in different parts of the country, noting that the causes of many of these incidents remain unclear. She emphasized that parents should not shift the responsibility of upbringing entirely to teachers.
She noted that despite the government’s ban on corporal punishment in schools, parents still have a critical role to play in shaping the behavior and values of children while they are at home. According to her, discipline, guidance, and communication should begin within the family setting.
The Woman Representative called upon parents to create time for meaningful conversations with their children, saying that open communication can help address challenges young people face before they escalate into larger problems.
Meanwhile, the cultural celebration itself continued to attract admiration both within Kitui and beyond. Photos and videos from the event quickly spread across social media platforms, with many netizens expressing amazement at the huge turnout and the colorful display of culture.
Many observers described the occasion as one of the most remarkable traditional marriage ceremonies witnessed in the region in recent years. The blend of culture, family values, and community participation demonstrated the significance of preserving traditions.
As the celebrations came to an end, Nzangathi Village remained the talk of the region, with many describing the day as a perfect reflection of love, unity, and cultural pride. Sammy Mutea’s traditional visit not only celebrated family bonds but also created a memorable event that left a lasting impression on many.
