Kanziko Maternity Wing Finally Completed, Boosting Maternal Care in Kitui South

Residents of Kanziko in Kitui South have received a major healthcare boost following the official commissioning of a modern maternity wing at Kanziko Health Centre by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe.

The facility, which is now fully equipped and operational, was completed during the 2025/2026 financial year after years of delay. Its completion marks a significant step in strengthening maternal and child health services in the region.

Speaking during the commissioning, Governor Malombe noted that the project had initially been funded under the now-defunct Local Authority Transfer Fund (LATF) and was first installed in 2012. However, it stalled for years under the former local council system before being revived by the current county administration.

The Governor emphasized that completing stalled projects remains a key priority for his government, stating that such investments directly improve the quality of life for residents. He added that the maternity wing will ease the burden on expectant mothers who previously had to travel long distances to access delivery services.

During the tour of the facility, Angeline Musembi, a nurse at the health centre, guided the Governor and his delegation through the newly completed wing, showcasing its equipment and readiness to serve the community.

The commissioning ceremony was attended by several County Executive Committee Members and Chief Officers, led by Health Minister Ruth Koki, who reaffirmed the county’s commitment to enhancing healthcare infrastructure and service delivery

.

Local residents welcomed the development, expressing optimism that the new maternity wing will reduce maternal and infant mortality rates while ensuring safer deliveries for women in Kanziko and surrounding areas.
