Kitui Executive for Agriculture and Livestock Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele alongside the Chief Officer for Agriculture Madam Gladys Kivoto today conducted a farm visit to Esther Musili’s 10-acre farm, where she is successfully undertaking tomato and maize farming through irrigated agriculture as part of the county’s continued efforts to promote climate-smart and commercially viable farming practices aimed at improving food security and household incomes among farmers.

The team commended Esther for embracing modern farming technologies, including the use of fertiliser to boost crop productivity and herbicides for effective weed control, reducing overreliance on manual labour. Her farm was described as a model of efficient agricultural production, demonstrating how irrigation and proper farm management can transform farming into a sustainable and profitable enterprise even in semi-arid areas.

Dr. Kimwele and Chief Officer Kivoto encouraged more farmers across the county to adopt innovative farming methods to increase yields and cut production costs. Esther Musili was further applauded for her dedication and willingness to allow fellow farmers to use her farm as a demonstration site for learning and knowledge sharing on best agricultural practices.
