The County Government of Kitui has recorded a major boost in its own-source revenue collection, with earnings rising from Ksh 370 million to slightly above Ksh 900 million. The increase signals improved financial management and enhanced efficiency in revenue collection systems within the county administration.
Speaking before the County Assembly’s Public Investments and Accounts Committee (CPIAC), Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Finance, Economic Planning and Revenue Management, Hon. Peter Kilonzo, said the county is now firmly on course to surpass the Ksh 1 billion revenue mark. He attributed the growth to ongoing reforms aimed at sealing loopholes and modernizing collection processes.
“We are working tirelessly to improve our revenue collection systems and processes, and we are confident that we will achieve our target,” said Mr. Kilonzo.
The committee, chaired by Kauwi Ward MCA Hon. Gabriel Mutunga Munyao, had summoned the finance team to respond to audit concerns raised by the Office of the Auditor General. Members of the committee lauded the county government for demonstrating commitment to accountability, transparency, and prudent management of public resources.
Among the key reforms highlighted were the implementation of the Lands Information Management System (LIMS) and the County Revenue Management System, commonly referred to as “Zizi.” According to the CECM, the full rollout of LIMS will streamline land rates administration and help address long-standing challenges in land revenue collection.
The Office of the Auditor General also commended the County Assembly for passing the Kitui County Revenue Administration Bill, 2026, describing it as a significant step towards strengthening revenue administration and improving compliance.
Officials from the Machakos Regional Office of the Auditor General, led by Regional Director Ms. Pamela Mugalisi, attended the session. The county government expressed optimism that the increased revenue will enhance service delivery and fast-track development projects across Kitui County.
