Kalonzo Alleges Plot Against Uhuru, Defends Former President’s Rights

By YOANA KIMWELE

Kalonzo Musyoka, the leader of Wiper Patriotic Front and Azimio la Umoja, has claimed that there is a plot to assassinate former President Uhuru Kenyatta by individuals who believe he is backing the opposition movement in the country. Kalonzo made the remarks during a media engagement with Kameme TV and Kameme FM of Mediamax Network Ltd, where he addressed a range of national and international issues.

The Wiper leader strongly condemned what he described as sustained verbal attacks against the former Head of State, insisting that Uhuru has a constitutional right to express his opinions on matters affecting the country. Kalonzo further criticised alleged attempts to strip the former President of privileges and benefits accorded to retired Heads of State, terming such actions unnecessary and politically motivated.

At the same time, Kalonzo accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of frustrating democratic institutions by allegedly failing to release funds owed to political parties through the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties. According to him, withholding the money is a direct attack on multiparty democracy and is meant to weaken opposition parties ahead of future political contests.

The opposition leader also spoke about the formation of the United Alternative Government, saying the coalition remains united despite political pressure from opponents. He emphasised that unity is the strongest pillar holding the team together and warned against attempts to divide leaders working together under the opposition umbrella.

Kalonzo maintained that Kenyans are increasingly demanding accountability, good governance and respect for constitutional freedoms, adding that opposition leaders will continue engaging citizens across the country in pursuit of democratic reforms and national unity.
