Residents of Voo/Kyamatu Ward have received a major infrastructure boost following the official commissioning of the 150-metre Thua Drift by Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe along the Kiangini–Thua River–Kyukuni road.

The completed project, which is already open to the public and serving local communities, is expected to significantly improve transport and accessibility in the area, especially during rainy seasons when movement across the river has traditionally been challenging.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe said the county government remains committed to investing in road infrastructure to enhance mobility, spur economic growth, and improve access to essential services across Kitui County.

The event was attended by Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Voo/Kyamatu Ward MCA Hon. Zack Syengo, Chuluni Ward MCA Hon. Mathew Vuthi, County Executive Committee Members, and other county officials, who joined residents in celebrating the completion of the key development project.

Local residents welcomed the commissioning of the drift, noting that it will ease transportation of farm produce, improve access to markets, schools, and health facilities, and strengthen connectivity between communities on both sides of the Thua River.

The Thua Drift is part of Governor Malombe’s broader agenda to improve road networks and open up rural areas for social and economic development throughout Kitui County.
