Residents of Ngomeni Ward in Mwingi North Sub-County are celebrating the completion of a six-classroom project at Yamwenze Primary School, a major boost to education infrastructure in the area.
The project, implemented through the Equalization Fund Programme, involved the construction of six modern classrooms aimed at improving the learning environment for pupils and addressing classroom congestion.
According to information displayed at the project site, the initiative was funded by the Equalization Fund under the National Government of Kenya and implemented by the County Government of Kitui. The contractor who undertook the works is among those trained through capacity-building initiatives supported by Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration.
Construction commenced on June 7, 2025, and was successfully completed on June 2, 2026, marking the delivery of the project within the scheduled timeframe.
The new classrooms are expected to enhance access to quality education, provide a conducive learning environment, and support academic performance among learners in the arid and semi-arid region of Ngomeni Ward.

The project falls under the 2024/2025 Appropriation Year and forms part of ongoing efforts to bridge development gaps and improve public services in marginalized areas through the Equalization Fund.
Residents praised Ngomeni Ward MCA Hon. Nzungi Ngwele for championing the project and ensuring its successful implementation. They also expressed gratitude to Governor Dr. Julius Malombe for supporting infrastructure development initiatives that continue to transform learning institutions across Kitui County.
Local leaders and community members noted that the project will have a lasting impact on education outcomes by providing adequate and modern learning spaces for current and future generations of pupils.
