The Outstanding Member of Parliament for Mwingi West hon Charles Nguna has dismissed growing political criticism following his decision to work with the broad-based government to fast-track development projects in the constituency.
The legislator linked the backlash to what he termed as “enemies of progress,” accusing his critics of prioritizing divisive politics over tangible development. He pointed to the ongoing tarmacking of the Kwa Siku–Mbondoni–Migwani road as a key milestone achieved through his cooperation with the government, saying such projects are long overdue for the people of Mwingi West.
Nguna cautioned against what he described as “siasa za umasikini” (poverty-driven politics), arguing that such approaches continue to undermine visionary leadership in the Ukambani region. He maintained that his focus remains firmly on delivering services and fulfilling campaign promises to the electorate who entrusted him with leadership.
The MP acknowledged political fallout from his stance, revealing that he had been pushed out of the party he previously supported due to his development-driven approach. However, he remained unfazed, stating that political affiliations would be addressed at the appropriate time when the country approaches the next election cycle.
Looking ahead to the 2027 General Election, Nguna expressed confidence in his track record, saying the people of Mwingi West would re-elect him based on his performance. He added that he would seek a “friendly political party” that aligns with his development agenda, insisting that his transformation vision for the constituency remains unchanged.
He concluded by reiterating that leadership should be judged by service delivery rather than political alignments, affirming his commitment to continue pushing for infrastructure, economic empowerment, and improved livelihoods for the residents of Mwingi West.
