Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s administration continues to strengthen security along the insecurity-prone border between Kitui and Tana River counties through the construction of fully funded, modern police stations equipped with all the facilities required for effective policing in Kenya.
The police stations are part of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe’s commitment to the people of Kitui following his election in 2022, when he pledged to establish eight modern police stations along the Kitui–Tana River border to enhance security and protect local communities.
*To date, seven of the eight police stations have been successfully completed. The eighth station, Katumba Police Station in Nguni Ward, commenced construction but was temporarily suspended due to a border dispute involving communities from Tana River County.* With efforts underway to resolve the matter amicably, construction is expected to resume once the dispute is settled.
*This was revealed today by the Chief Officer for Decentralized Units, Stephen Kitonga Salee, during the official handover of the newly completed Kituvwi Police Station located at Kituvwi/Ilamba Village in Kanziko Ward, Kitui South Sub-County.* The facility was fully funded by the Kitui County Government under the 2025/2026 Financial Year budget.
Mr. Salee urged the local community to take ownership of the facility and safeguard it from vandalism, emphasizing that it was established to enhance security for residents, their property, and livestock. He further assured the community that Governor Malombe’s administration is actively engaging the National Government to ensure the station is fully operationalized and staffed with police officers.
Speaking during the ceremony, the area MCA, Hon. Kyalo Kimuli, praised Governor Malombe’s leadership, describing him as a development-oriented leader who has implemented numerous transformative projects in Kanziko Ward. Similar sentiments were echoed by the area Chief, Mr. Raphael Kithuku.
Residents expressed their joy and appreciation upon witnessing the completion of the police station, noting that the presence of Kituvwi Police Station will significantly enhance security, reduce crime, and improve livelihoods by creating a safer environment for economic growth. Speaker after speaker thanked Governor Malombe for fulfilling his promises and pledged their continued support for his development agenda.
The Chief Officer was accompanied by the Chief Officer for Tourism, Hospitality and Game Reserves, Ferdinand Kathenge; the Governor’s Security Advisor, Sammy Mwangangi; Kitui South Sub-County Administrator, Florence Ngalai; Ikutha Division OCPD, Raphael Mutiso; and other county and national government officials.
