Kitui County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture and Livestock Development, Dr. Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, has officially declared his interest in vying for the Kitui senatorial seat in the 2027 General Election under the Wiper Democratic Movement ticket.

Dr. Kimwele made the announcement at his rural home in Thitha, Mwingi Central, during a consultative meeting attended by local residents and members of the clergy. The declaration marks his formal entry into what is shaping up to be a competitive race for the influential county seat.
In his address, Kimwele positioned himself as a strong defender of devolution, pledging to champion the interests of counties at the national level. He emphasized his experience in public service and policy formulation, noting that his tenure in the county government has equipped him with the skills necessary to effectively represent Kitui in the Senate.
“I am ready to offer leadership that safeguards devolution and ensures equitable resource allocation to our people,” he said, drawing support from attendees who welcomed his bid.
Kimwele now joins a growing list of aspirants who have declared interest in the senatorial contest, including Kitui County Assembly Speaker Kevin Kinengo and Maendeleo Chap Chap Secretary General Mati Nyamu, among others.
Political analysts observe that his entry adds momentum to the race, with early campaigns already taking shape across the county ahead of the 2027 polls.

Dr. Kimwele has increasingly been viewed as a strategic policy maker, with supporters describing him as a steady and articulate voice on matters of governance and agricultural transformation.
As the political landscape in Kitui continues to evolve, attention now turns to how aspirants will consolidate support across the county’s diverse regions in the run-up to the next general election.
