The Residents of Voo/Kyamatu Ward in Kitui East Sub-County can now access a reliable and sustainable source of clean water following the commissioning of the Kaluasi Borehole Water Supply Project by the County Government of Kitui under the Equalization Fund Programme.

The project was officially commissioned on Friday by Julius Malombe and is already operational, serving approximately 1,100 residents and more than 2,350 livestock in the area.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe said the project is part of the county government’s broader efforts to enhance access to clean and safe water, particularly in underserved and marginalized areas. He noted that improved water access will contribute to better health outcomes, support livelihoods, and reduce the burden on residents who previously traveled long distances in search of water.

The Kaluasi Borehole Water Supply Project comprises several key components, including the drilling and equipping of a borehole, installation of a pumping system, construction of water storage tanks, pipeline extensions, and the establishment of water drawing points. The project also includes air valves and washout valves to ensure efficient operation and management of the water distribution network.

Local residents welcomed the project, describing it as a major milestone that will ease water shortages and improve living conditions in the area. Livestock keepers are also expected to benefit significantly from the reliable water supply, especially during dry seasons.

The project forms part of ongoing investments by the County Government of Kitui through the Equalization Fund aimed at improving access to essential services and promoting socio-economic development across the county.
