Yatta/Kwavonza MCA Mark Nding’o has praised the Senate of the Republic of Kenya for its continued commitment to protecting devolution and ensuring that counties receive increased allocations of sharable revenue every financial year. Speaking during the State of Kitui programme on Mutongoi TV, the MCA said the Senate has remained steadfast in safeguarding the interests of county governments and wananchi at the grassroots level.

Hon. Nding’o criticized members of the National Assembly, accusing them of failing to fully support the spirit of devolution. He argued that some MPs have consistently opposed efforts aimed at increasing county allocations, despite the growing demand for services and development projects across counties.

The MCA maintained that devolution remains the most effective vehicle for equitable development, noting that increased county funding has enabled local governments to improve infrastructure, healthcare, water projects and other essential services. He urged leaders at all levels to support measures that strengthen devolved units.

Addressing concerns over the alleged misuse of county resources, Hon. Nding’o called on relevant investigative and oversight agencies to take firm action against officials found culpable of misappropriating public funds. He said accountability must be upheld to ensure taxpayers receive value for money.

At the same time, the MCA emphasized that not all counties misuse public resources, pointing out that several county governments have demonstrated prudent financial management and delivered tangible development outcomes. He urged Kenyans to distinguish between well-performing counties and those facing governance challenges, while supporting efforts to enhance transparency and accountability across the devolved system.
