Senate, National Assembly Agree on Ksh 428 Billion Allocation for Counties

County governments are set to receive Ksh 428 billion in equitable share revenue after the Senate and the National Assembly reached a consensus through a mediation committee, ending weeks of disagreement over the allocation of funds to devolved units.

The agreement marks a major victory for devolution, with leaders from both Houses expressing optimism that the additional resources will enhance service delivery and accelerate development projects across the countryโ€™s 47 counties. The mediated figure is expected to provide counties with the financial certainty needed to implement key programmes in health, agriculture, infrastructure, and water services.

The breakthrough comes after intense negotiations between the two Houses, which had initially proposed different allocations for counties in the 2026/27 financial year. The consensus now paves the way for the approval of the Division of Revenue Bill and the timely disbursement of funds to county governments. County leaders have welcomed the agreement, saying it will strengthen devolution and enable counties to better respond to the needs of wananchi.
