Hon. Dr. Irene Kasalu has called for unity and inclusive leadership in Kitui County, saying opportunities to lead should be open to all qualified individuals regardless of their region of origin. Speaking on Friday during her Ziara Mashinani tour in Nzambani, Kasalu emphasized that leadership should focus on service delivery and development for all residents.
Dr. Kasalu stated that every person with the right qualifications, ability to deliver, and a clear vision for the county deserves an opportunity to serve. She noted that leadership should not be restricted to particular areas or groups but should embrace merit and commitment to public service.
During her address, Kasalu also commented on former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, urging residents not to attack her despite the current political competition. She acknowledged Ngilu’s past contributions to Kitui and praised her record during earlier years of leadership.
“Don’t attack Charity Ngilu. When she was my age, she did a marvelous job for Kitui. But now that age has caught up with her, let her retire; I will take care of her,” Kasalu said while addressing residents during the tour.
The remarks drew reactions from supporters present, with Kasalu positioning herself as a leader focused on respect and continuity rather than personal attacks. She maintained that political differences should not divide residents or undermine the contributions made by previous leaders.
Kasalu reiterated her commitment to serving the people of Kitui with fairness and without discrimination. She said her leadership agenda is centered on ensuring that development projects and public resources benefit all communities equally.
She further noted that her priority remains improving the lives of residents across every village in Kitui County, saying service delivery and equitable development will remain at the heart of her mission as she continues engaging residents through her Ziara Mashinani initiative.
