Maendeleo Chap Chap Rejects Pressure to Fold into UDA Ahead of 2027 Polls

The Maendeleo Chap Chap Party has firmly rejected pressure to dissolve and merge into the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), reaffirming its commitment to remain an independent political party within the Kenya Kwanza Coalition ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The resolution was made during the party’s National Governing Council (NGC) meeting held in Nairobi and chaired by Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua, who is also the party leader.

In a statement read by party Secretary General Mati Nyamu, the party maintained that Maendeleo Chap Chap will continue operating independently while supporting the broader Kenya Kwanza agenda.

The party leaders said the move to preserve the party’s identity is aimed at strengthening democratic space and ensuring constituent parties within the coalition retain their political voice and structures ahead of the next elections.

The NGC meeting brought together senior party officials and delegates from different regions, who unanimously backed the decision and called for intensified grassroots mobilization as preparations for the 2027 campaigns gather momentum.

Leaders attending the meeting argued that political diversity within the coalition is essential in strengthening national unity and enhancing representation of different communities across the country. They noted that coalition politics should be built on mutual respect among affiliated parties rather than forced mergers.

The party also announced plans to embark on a nationwide recruitment and reorganization exercise aimed at revitalizing its grassroots networks and attracting more young people into leadership and governance. Officials said the exercise will be rolled out in all counties over the coming months.

At the same time, Maendeleo Chap Chap leaders reiterated their support for President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the party remains committed to the coalition’s development agenda while safeguarding its own political identity and principles.
