Kitui Governor Julius Malombe on Friday commissioned a new maternity wing and a renovated outpatient department at Yumbu Dispensary in Mui Ward, Mwingi Central, in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare service delivery at the grassroots.
The governor said the project forms part of his administration’s broader strategy to improve healthcare infrastructure across the county, with a focus on expanding access to quality maternal and outpatient services. He noted that the new facilities will help reduce the burden on distant health centers while ensuring expectant mothers receive timely and safe care closer to home.
Area MCA Cornelius Muthami lauded the initiative, terming it a major boost to healthcare services in the area. He said residents have long faced challenges accessing maternal care, forcing many to travel long distances, a situation the new maternity wing is expected to address.
The commissioning event was attended by Deputy Governor Wambua Kanani, John Makau and local leader Waziri Mbaya, CO Lyn kitwan among other county officials and community members, who welcomed the development as a significant milestone in improving health outcomes in Mui Ward.
The county government reaffirmed its commitment to investing in health infrastructure as part of its agenda to deliver accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to all residents of Kitui County.
