Kitui Senator Enoch Wambua has launched a scathing attack on Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho, accusing him of disrespecting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and attempting to impose the Kenya Kwanza administration on the Coast region.

In a strongly worded statement, Wambua insisted that the Wiper Democratic Movement must govern Mombasa County in 2027 “with dignity and decorum,” while reminding Joho of the political support he received from Kalonzo Musyoka and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga during his successful gubernatorial bids.

According to the senator, Joho would not have secured victory in the 2013 and 2017 Mombasa gubernatorial elections without the backing of Kalonzo and Raila. Wambua claimed that Wiper even sidelined its own Secretary-General, Hassan Omar, in 2017 to support Joho’s re-election campaign.

The Kitui lawmaker further credited former President Uhuru Kenyatta with transforming Mombasa through major infrastructure projects, improved road networks, enhanced ferry services and the beautification of public spaces during Joho’s tenure as governor.

Wambua also questioned Joho’s leadership style and recent political remarks, arguing that leaders of his stature should exercise restraint and respect in public discourse. He accused the CS of failing to appreciate the political support he previously received from allies and former leaders.

The senator went on to praise Kalonzo Musyoka, describing him as a leader with high standards of integrity, ethics and governance. He further accused Joho of misunderstanding the constitutional responsibilities attached to his Cabinet position.

In a bold political declaration, Wambua claimed Joho’s influence over Coast politics is waning and predicted that Mombasa County will be governed by a Wiper-backed candidate in the next general election. He specifically endorsed Mohammed Ali, popularly known as “Jicho Pevu,” as the party’s preferred candidate for the Mombasa governorship in 2027.

The remarks are likely to intensify political tensions between Wiper and leaders aligned with President William Ruto’s administration as early campaigns and succession battles begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
