Supporters of Kitui gubernatorial hopeful Makali Mulu have welcomed reports that the Wiper Democratic Movement may use opinion polling to identify its 2027 gubernatorial flagbearer, describing the move as democratic and strategic ahead of the highly anticipated race.
In a statement shared by one of his supporters, Makali Mulu was praised as the most suitable candidate to carry the party’s ticket, citing his leadership experience, grassroots engagement and development-oriented politics. The supporter argued that the Makueni MP has built strong public trust across Kitui through consistent national leadership and close connection with wananchi.
The statement further claimed that Makali Mulu is best positioned to sustain and expand the development agenda associated with Kitui Governor Julius Malombe. Areas highlighted included economic empowerment, infrastructure growth, governance and service delivery, with supporters insisting that Kitui requires a leader capable of protecting ongoing progress while accelerating future development.
At the same time, proponents of the opinion poll proposal argued that the method could help avoid divisive party nominations that often weaken political parties internally. According to the statement, allowing wananchi to determine the most popular candidate would strengthen Wiper’s chances in the 2027 gubernatorial contest.
The remarks come as political activities continue to intensify across Kitui County, with various aspirants positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
