Kitui gubernatorial hopeful CPA Nicholas Mulila intensified his grassroots engagement campaigns after holding a consultative meeting with members of the Jua Kali sector in Kitui town, where he promised reforms aimed at uplifting informal traders and artisans across the county.
Mulila, who was received by the chairman of the Kitui Jua Kali sector alongside hundreds of traders, mechanics, welders and small-scale business operators, praised the sector for its major contribution to job creation and economic growth in the county. He noted that despite supporting thousands of families, many traders continue to struggle due to poor infrastructure, lack of modern working spaces, limited access to affordable capital and inadequate support from the county government.
Addressing the gathering, Mulila called on the traders to remain united and committed to hard work, saying unity within the sector would strengthen their voice and bargaining power. He encouraged the artisans not to lose hope despite the prevailing economic difficulties, adding that proper leadership and supportive policies would help unlock the full potential of the informal sector.
The gubernatorial hopeful further pledged that his administration, if elected in 2027, would prioritize the construction of modern Jua Kali sheds, improvement of access roads within trading areas, introduction of affordable loan programs and establishment of training initiatives to enhance innovation and technical skills among artisans.
Mulila also emphasized the need for a favorable business environment that would allow local traders to grow competitively and expand their enterprises. During the visit, he interacted directly with traders and listened to their concerns and proposals on how the county government can better support small businesses.
Political observers view the visit as part of Mulila’s broader strategy to strengthen his grassroots support base ahead of the 2027 General Election as he continues to position himself as a key contender in the race for the Kitui gubernatorial seat.
