Kitui County Deputy Governor H.E. Wambua Kanani on May 23, 2026 joined residents of Mikuyuni in Miambani Ward, Kitui Central Sub-county, for the burial ceremony of the late Justus Malonza Kimanthi, describing him as a selfless medical professional and dedicated public servant.
The late Kimanthi, aged 87, was celebrated for his decades of service in the healthcare sector, having worked in various hospitals between 1964 and 1991 before venturing into politics as Mutitu Ward Councillor from 1992 to 1997. After serving in elective leadership, he later returned to the medical profession where he continued serving the community until his demise.
Speaking during the funeral service, H.E. Kanani praised the late Kimanthi for his compassion and commitment to humanity through healthcare.
“Through his compassion, dedication, and commitment to healing, the virtues exemplified by Mzee Malonza will live on,” said the Deputy Governor.
H.E. Kanani also used the occasion to highlight ongoing development projects being implemented by the county government under the leadership of Governor Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, particularly in Miambani Ward and surrounding areas.
He noted that the county administration has continued opening up road networks in the hilly parts of Kitui Central to improve accessibility and support economic activities.
“Our Governor, Dr. Julius Malombe, EGH, loves the people of Miambani Ward. During his first term, he literally opened up Miambani to the rest of the world. He is currently opening the Ulonzo Primary road and the Katakani hiking route centre as Miambani scenic landscapes continue gaining recognition as a tourist destination,” said Kanani.
The Deputy Governor further assured residents of neighbouring Mutitu/Kaliku Ward that the county government remains committed to completing the 94-bed-capacity Nzamba Kitonga Memorial Hospital, a flagship health project expected to transform healthcare services in the region.
He revealed that the facility will also host a Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), positioning it as a major healthcare and training hub within the county.
Kanani noted that the project would be a fitting legacy in honour of professionals like the late Kimanthi who dedicated their lives to healthcare service.
Leaders present during the burial ceremony included Kitui County Woman Representative Irene Kasalu, Miambani Ward MCA Nganga Mutambu, Kitui CECM for Agriculture Stephen Mbaya Kimwele, and Environment Chief Officer Henry Nyamai among other county leaders and residents.
